Do IT Yourself AC Tune-Up

  • Replace and/or clean all filters. 
  • Remove all items within 2 feet or a/c condenser on all sides, including top.

Filter Changing : Each central air conditioning and heating system usually has one filter per system. If you live in a single story residence you will more than likely have one air conditioner and filter. If you live in a two story home you are more likely to have an a/c for upstairs and one for downstairs, therefore, two filters. To find your filter use these tips.

Furnace located in garage or closet: Filter may be located inside the furnace at the bottom of the cabinet. When the equipment is off lift off the door and look down. Make sure to add the correct size filter and look at the arrow on the side of the package.

Furnace located in the attic: Filter will be located in your ceiling or wall.

Preventative Maintenance: Filters must be in place at all times the a/c or heat is on! Filters trap dirt and debris from clogging your coil. If your coil gets dirty you will have NO AIR FLOW in your home. Coils are expensive to clean especially during the peak season of summer. 

Filters can be purchased at  Home Depot, Lowes, Walmart, Target and and other home improvement stores. At Home Depot and Lowes they also sell perfumed pads if you wanted to add a fragrance while your air conditioner is running. They usually last 30 days.

Look for the arrow on the side of your filter

Make sure your furnace is OFF
Tighten and secure all fixtures

Clearing space for ac condenser : It is important to keep the space around your outside ac condenser clean and clear to allow the unit to breathe. 

Preventative Maintenance: AC condenser must have a minimum two foot clearance on all sides and top to prevent overheating and electrical shorts. Plants and animal hair are top contributors to causing the ac condenser to overheat.
